you don’t have to distance yourself from cheese

This is a scary time for all of us and we want you to know that we are taking every possible precaution. Four Fat Fowl has always taken food safety very seriously and has scored very highly on inspections by state regulatory authorities and by an independent third party auditor. Current events have highlighted the fact that proper sanitation can make a huge difference. To that end, we have increased our sanitation efforts and are including additional routine and regular cleaning and disinfecting of all employee and public spaces. We are requiring team members with cold or flu-like symptoms to stay home and we are not penalizing them with cuts to their income. We are also putting the pieces in place to ensure that these same highly valued team members will have a steady source of income and job security no matter how long the present events continue.

In the meantime, we are open for business. If you are one of the many Americans sheltering in place or practicing social distancing, let us ship your cheese directly to you. When times are tough, there’s always cheese. If you are interested in a delivery of creamy goodness, please email us at fourfatfowl@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you! We are lonely, too.

what’s in a name? - Four fat fowl

We are committed to making a locally-sourced product that we can be proud of. It seems only fitting that our name should be locally-sourced as well. Stephentown, NY has a rich history going back to the colonial era. In the seventeenth century, the Dutch colonized the Hudson Valley and established a system of landholding called patroonship. The patroon acted as the landlord to tenants who rented land to live on and farm. Stephentown was named after Stephen Van Rensselaer, the last patroon of the patroonship that now comprises Rensselaer County. His tenants called him the “Good Patroon” because he was lenient in collecting rent, which included a day’s labor, ten to twenty bushels of wheat per hundred acres, and “four fat fowl.” This history gave us the perfect name for our group.
